Mortal Kombat – Kenshi Trailer
Captain America: Super Soldier
Captain America: Super Soldier is a third person action adventure set during World War II.
The First Templar
The First Templar draws you in with interesting characters and rhythmic combat, but technical foibles can lessen your fun.
Two thousand years ago, Jesus drank from a cup. Such a commonplace action may seem trivial, but it transformed an ordinary chalice into the Holy Grail. This sacred object has fueled the desire of countless historians through the years and has wormed its way into just as many fictional tellings of its supposed powers.
The First Templar uses the unimaginable delights promised by the Holy Grail to push you through this action-focused role-playing game. The Knights Templar, sworn protectors of this coveted prize, prove they are as susceptible to temptation as every other person, and though the story provides enough twists to stay interesting, it’s the varied gameplay and pleasant visuals that make this a journey worth taking. A dearth of items means you’re stuck with only a few weapons and outfits for the whole game, and spotty collision detection can hound your progress at times.
But The First Templar rises above these problems to create an enjoyable adventure through the turbulent 13th century.
Portal 2 sells 3 million – Report
Valve president and cofounder Gabe Newell tells Games for Change Festival audience that the recently released platformer has already gone triple platinum.
Earlier this week, the
Games for Change Festival kicked off with
a keynote address from former Vice President Al Gore. Today, the New York-based event was the scene of a speech from another executive–Gabe Newell, president and cofounder of Valve Corporation.
According to gaming blog Joystiq, Newell used his speech to announce a major sales milestone for the critical darling Portal 2. Since its launch on April 19, the game has “sold” 3 million units, Newell reportedly said. He did not specify whether that figure referred to sold-in (that is, shipped) copies or represented games sold through to consumers.
Newell didn’t say whether the figure included sales on Steam, Valve’s online distribution platform for the PC and Mac. He also declined to clarify whether that figure included cumulative sales on all the platforms Portal 2 was released on–the PC, Mac, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.
As of press time, Valve reps had offered no official confirmation of Newell’s comments.
Portal 2 has reached its sales milestone far faster than its predecessor, Portal. On the day its sequel launched,
Valve confirmed to GameSpot that the original game had sold over 4 million units since its launch in October 2007. That figure did not include Steam sales of Portal, but it did include sales of the compilation The Orange Box, which included Portal, Team Fortress 2, Half-Life 2, and the latter shooter’s first two expansions.
The Cursed Crusade – Sizzle Trailer

Catherine: Gameplay Trailer
Catherine is a thrilling action adventure game from Atlus.
Lucha Fury
Lucha Fury is a beat-’em-up that combines the worlds of comics and Mexican wrestling.
Call of Duty: Black Ops – Annihilation
Annihilation is a new downloadable content pack for Call of Duty: Black Ops.
Transformers: Dark of the Moon
Transformers: Dark of the Moon is a short and shallow shooter that fails to deliver on the potential of its beloved license.
Another Transformers movie means another Transformers game. For many longtime fans, Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, and the other robots in disguise are special characters, and hope endures that someday, a Transformers game will come along that does them justice. Unfortunately, Dark of the Moon is not that game.
The action in this third-person shooter isn’t bad, but it also isn’t anything remarkable. There aren’t any surprises or standout moments during its brief campaign, and the shallow multiplayer isn’t likely to keep you coming back for very long.
Score: 5.5 / mediocre
Dead Island Hands-On Preview
Dead Island, the first-person survival game from developer Techland (Call of Juarez), may take place on a tropical island, but there won’t be a whole lot of rest or relaxation.
Instead of dressing up in silly outfits or traveling around with a wise-cracking football coach, Dead Island’s somber inhabitants spend their time in quiet desperation. Escape, survival, and deceased family members are the only topics the locals want to discuss, and it seems everyone has his or her own tragic story to tell. At this year’s E3, we finally got the entire four-person cast together for a brief cooperative multiplayer session.
For today’s demonstration, we were back in the same metropolitan area that we saw at the end of our previous coverage. Our mission this time was to leave the safety of the heavily fortified church and venture into the zombie-infested city. While there, we would hang up flyers informing the possible survivors of the church. Of course, we were the only ones who could do this because we were all immune to the zombie virus. Once again, we were in the shoes of rapper-turned-zombie-slayer Sam B., who excelled at bludgeoning his foes to death with blunt, melee weapons.
There’s safety in numbers in Dead Island. We found this out quickly after our group promptly split up and was easily overwhelmed by packs of undead. Once your character takes enough damage, he tumbles to the ground. From this prone position, you can either get helped up by an ally or help yourself up after a set amount of time. Doing so will automatically restore a bit of your health so that you don’t instantly fall down again. Of course, while prone, you could always just get beaten to death by a zombie as our character did–constantly. When you die, your character respawns right where he fell at the cost of some money and experience.
And when it comes to money, it’s finders, keepers on Dead Island. Whatever weapons, items, health packs, or money you pick up is yours to keep (or to share with your friends if you’re feeling generous). Sharing health packs is especially easy because you just have to walk up to an injured player and tap a button to quickly administer some first aid. On the flip side, you can also walk up to a prone zombie and, if you line yourself up with its head, tap a button to cave its face in with the heel of your boot.
Techland is still adjusting how the game will handle players entering a co-op game who are vastly under- or over-leveled compared to the host. The cooperative play is also online only, so if you were hoping to stomp a few heads split-screen, then you’re out of luck. At any rate, you can get marooned on Dead Island this September on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
